6.5.1862 Joseph and Louisa (Mary Louisa) commenced school at the National model School Melbourne.
Joseph awarded the pat Whyte prize Christmas 1863.
1864 went to Scotch College Melbourne.
The family returned to Woodside in 1866 and built a new homestead.
Joseph was then employed by Mr Dobinsons Drapery, Piper Street, Kyneton.
After marriage to Sarah Hanson they went to live in the first slab house at Woodside.
April 1881 shifted to Mrs Breen's old store in Fern Hill when the railway was opened, and opened a gereral store. A new shop was built in 1906.
11 Feb 1919 sold freehold and business to Laurence madden, shifted to Robert Norman Clowes' at Tylden.
Bought land at Spring St. Reservoir and built a new home using part of the old house from Fern Hill. Shifted in December 1919, large garden & fowls. Sold Woodside in 1920 to his sons T E Clowes & R N Clowes.
Joseph was superintendant of Woodside S.S. 1870-19 & then took services.
Trustee of Woodside Church, Methodist Church Kyneton, Tylden cemetery.
Trustee & Hon. Sec. Fern Hill Mechanics Hall and Library.
Died after 6 weeks growth in throat at home 219 Spring St. Reservoir. Melbourne.
Buried at Tylden cemetery.

When first married lived in the Homestead the Clowes family erected in 1840. Then moved to Fern Hill where they opened the store in 1880, then to eservoir in 1919.
2 years before her death she suffered a severe stroke which confined her to her room and an invalids chair.
She bore her illness with "characteristic courage and fortitude" and her mind retained all its vigour and she retained a keen interest in daily life. Died at home and was buried at Tylden. Rev. A E Blackwell officiating.
